Another reason to stick with S3 as a requirement over just posting the images in comments on GitHub would be that it would allow us to provide a better UI...

That's right. @lelandrichardson and @spikebrehm are working on React Native which will be part of the 5.0.0 release.
It might actually make sense to combine this with #138 since they are very similar in nature.
