i am interested in pulling out logic from here, but i think it would be more to a 'framebuffer' class like we do in circuitpython, where a bitmap is managed...
the CI build is cause ESP8266 had a broken release, but i think they fixed it in the last hour here's what we did in circuitpython, it was easily adaptable...
ok thanks - we're a bit swamped with updated all the SPI based TFT's right now but when we get all those issues resolved we'll circleback to oleds and einks...

WICED is mostly for back compatibility, the chip is a dead end these days. we just did a huge refactor here. if you can add STM32 support without breakin' stuff...
