Some people would like to see the program numbers as the General MIDI names instead of 0-127 or 1-128.

Use the timestamp in ns, but divide by a chosen sample rate (44.1/48/96/192 kHz), to display the number of samples.

IIRC we can now embed the HexFiend editor into other apps -- that would be far easier than writing our own hex editor.
