I'd prefer a merge of #1227 than this, we could then expose a standard minecraft keyformat or something
Can you explain the use-case for this? I'm not sure if it makes sense as a method given whether a character is allowed depends on where in the key it...
I don't think we'll discard illegal characters beyond trimming the string, but we can make the error sooner and cleaner.
Note this also applies to manual creation of a head object component!
