Confirmed, however in my case it's all the time (not sometimes). Like you say, quick fix is just to shut the lid, pause a second, then re-open.

Also, if in sleep state and I plug in an external monitor, power, etc and open lid, the system wakes normally. The external monitor is HDMI via the USB-C socket....
