@radarhere I'm pretty sure it's just because Pillow is reading the whole file into memory. OOM happens when I try `im.load()` too. Same problem occurs on my Ubuntu 18.04 laptop....

What are your computer specs? Note that 100000.tiff is already compressed. Use `vips black 100000.tiff 100000 100000 --bands 3` to create a 4.3 GB uncompressed image.
