Thanks @fleming79 for investigating. Not sure what changed in JupyterLab 4 that would cause this issue. Maybe there is something relevant in https://jupyterlab.readthedocs.io/en/latest/extension/extension_migration.html#jupyterlab-3-x-to-4-x, and we need to update `ipylab` accordingly?

So maybe it should be fixed in ipywidgets directly?
