I am afraid that is the only way to make it backwards-compatible. As I wrote, this is far from ideal, but we would have to make some major changes otherwise.
Do you have the data? If so, we could add it in one of the next releases.

This is very difficult to debug. Do you maybe have some more information? Did you enable the add-in in the office settings?
