Blank/white section when activating split view in gedit 3.10.4

Running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Seems were are going to be stuck with gedit 3.10.4 for a while. I fixed the python3 launcher but when I turn on the split view the split section that appear is a blank/white area that takes up half the screen while i see my previously opened document in the other half of the window.
