Just playing around a little more ... it looks like it's fine to use a directory inside my current project, so long as the 'path_output' value is an absolute path....

Having the same problem ... also, and maybe this is just an emacs issue, but when I run "php-extras-generate-eldoc" with doc.php.net down ... the entire emacs application just freezes up,...
