Appium just uses your env JAVA_HOME, so set that using the appropriate methods for setting environment variables for your OS.

Oh in this case the error is because the validation function has not yet been published so of course it will fail

If you are not working with alerts, why is Appium receiving a request to check the alert text?

This is the correct behaviour. the inspector is no longer a part of appium desktop.
