This is a good idea. By default, I don't think we'd want to store unencrypted copies on the filesystem, but I can see an option or config variable for sure....
Indeed. This, along with a mode for environments that takes your current environment into account, would be nice. I've been thinking about a --old and --new argument for this purpose.
