I think we should get some sort of live statistics in QGC and/or companion in order to explore this more under various conditions and with different cameras.

 it appears to be an unhandled exception in mavproxy. In order of preference: 1. disable telemetry logging on companion 2. mavproxy proceed without logging if disk runs out 3....
see 192.168.2.2:2770/mavproxy we can also try 3M, and higher? Let's see if it makes a difference.
For user data and configuration we can have yet another partition that is just for this, and remains untouched during the update process.
