It appears [the issue is fixed with Mattermost v1.3](https://github.com/mattermost/desktop/issues/215). I'll confirm and send a reply back here with the conclusion.

Circling back -- this should now be fixed. Closing as it cannot be reproduced in desktop app v1.3. Will be re-opened if the issue reappears.
