Plasma does not have system tray support at all: it converts xembed icons to SNI instead [using xembedsniproxy](https://github.com/KDE/plasma-workspace/tree/master/xembed-sni-proxy). Perhaps lxqt could do it as well. Its only dependency besides qt5...
