Does your collection have a route set? Without one Statamic doesn't know what template to render the Live Preview with and hides the button.

It only appends the site_url as defined in your system `locales` setting. Do you have the full domain in there?
Did you escape the pipes?
The upgrade to v3 is 100% free if you just bought v2. Also, v2 is still supported, but at this point really only security/critical fixes.
I think our original intentions with the feature was for new sites, but yeah I guess you're right on that one.
Did you remove a locale, perhaps?
Do you have any unpublished pages?
I can't recreate this - can you share any other info? A screenshot of the browser and error? Or your file structure?
Not sure how to recreate and fix this in v2, but at least v3 won't have this issue :)
