Hi, I agree, It's a technical issue and not disabled on purpose. Since Withings released a feature to automatically upload to strava this repo is not highly maintained anymore.
Good remark! I started on preparing a solution for it on the `activity-download-indicator` branch. I like your first suggestion to save it in the preferences.
