Hey @danicheg, see this comment: https://github.com/stanch/reftree/issues/22#issuecomment-754659656. In short, happy to accept a PR, but it would need to involve updating the zipper library as well, and also updating the `RefTree`...

I’ve never used mdoc, but from a quick glance it looks like it would fit the bill!

P.S. For reftree I would also look into replacing gitbook with docusaurus. I recall trying to update the docs a few years ago and bumping into some npm errors; besides...

I believe this is more complicated, because the atomic schema is hardcoded in a few places.
