Could be that it is the same issue as issue #1988 and closed PR "select_related ReferenceFields down to max_depth #1226)".
For 7.0.x the issue starts with 7.0.14 (upgraded from 7.0.12; maybe even starts with 7.0.13 already). Note that the token name is different there, being csrftoken_, so we're checking it...
