Another thing to note is 1) not all URLs ending in .pdf are "raw pdfs", see https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/blob/master/test/pdfs/160F-2019.pdf 2) not all raw PDFs or especially raw images induce the download dialog
The issue is kinda old, and the group bys solved my underlying issue. I can reopen if there's still demand for this.
The only thing this query lets me do is scroll it, it freezes every other view and spins up my computer a lot. The sandbox vault seems to be small...
Is this still occurring? There have been some changes to link-clicking in Obsidian over time.

Flatpak may affect it too, I wouldn't know how to help with that. What is the error on console when you set the template to `usr/bin/code '{{vaultpath}}'`?
Could you try a different installation method for Obsidian? They have some here: https://obsidian.md/download. So we can see if it really is flatpak that makes this not work.
If arbitrary code execution is too much, people can do a great deal with **regexes** only.
