It's definitely possible. One incomplete example is https://github.com/nfc-tools/libnfc/pull/300 . There may be better examples around.

Sorry, I don't fully understand the reasoning. First off, do you have picom working? it makes Rofi semi-transparent. Also visual changes are good to be illustrated by (small) screenshot(s).

the GTK should be installed as a dependency of LGI which awesomeWM depends on. What's wrong with your system?

Sounds like something broken with Arch. Does pure AwesomeWM work without GTK+3 ?
