I'd love this feature too. My solution for the past 2 years has been to use TegraExplorer as my bootloader and I wrote a script to move around some folders...
I'm having issues booting all of the 5.x kernels on my Falcon 360. I managed to get 3.10.7 built and it booted.
 got gentoo booting over nfs with the kernel patches from @rwf93
