@n8henrie you're right I ended up downloading a "deknoxed" version of the stock rom for my note pro. After flashing it, everything works like it should.

The code in the repo has PIE added, see this commit https://github.com/oNaiPs/droidVncServer/commit/d7e28b196af0ca7a6283a6d5022d6834173b3bbb However, the version in the Play Store is from 2012, well before the PIE commit was added: ...
