go to build.gradle, change the kotlin version from 1.4.32 to 1.5.0. referrenced [here](https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/KT-45566/JDK-16-e:-java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:-Could-not-initialize-c#focus=Comments-27-4781545.0-0). i also changed my java path to use jdk 11.0.13, not sure if that helped too.
