Removing (and fixing) xbacklight from the configuration works. I didn't think that the two things were related. I didn't see the connection.

I've noticed that the problem appears when I load polybar and after I re-arrange the desktop with xrandr. If I do xrandr and after I load polybar, it shows correctly.
