Just a note that I downgraded the protobuf library to 3.8.0 and got things working so I guess it's a compatibility issue.
Silly me just updated our dev ELK stack to 8.0.0 without checking things would work. I see this is also tracked via #375 At the moment it looks like updating...

I've just hit the same point trying to set up an snmp-exporter and get it scraped. This is a great starting point but the learning curve is steep!
