It looks like the annotation file had been created so that Excerptor found it existed already and reported this as an error. In this report, the path is `/Users/stoettner/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/ED-annotation/Lind...

Excerptor should give users a notification about existent files rather than just crash. I'll keep this issue open until I fix it.
