Same here. Tried xrandr to force refresh rate but no luck. Also I can have 8k only on nvidia-open drivers. When I install standard then 1024px resolution After switching off...
Yes it works, however tearing and lagging is a problem for me. On Wayland is much smoother and don't have tearing.
