Following initial implementation of the "disable-compression" suggestion above, it was suggested in code review to implement a choice of compression algorithms. This has now been done, see [here](https://github.com/projectcontour/contour/pull/6546#issuecomment-2401649384).

hi @tsaarni @davinci26 just to check, is there anything I need to do to move this issue into a "ready for review" status?
