@dchambers yes, that TLP and no, it is not installed by default.

The funny thing about this "feature" is that it is supposed to work the other way around: _increase_ brightness with a dark background, and _decrease_ it on a bright background...

A "workaround" is to buy an Intel 7265 module and replace the Broadcom card. [This bug](https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1451789) seems to be related.
