Starring conversations stopped working

A few days ago, starring a conversation stopped working. It appears the conversation was starred successfully, but upon refreshing the page or navigating to "Starred" in the sidebar, it is not there.

I have another Freescout instance with the same specs and there it works fine. Just tried updating Freescout to the latest version, and rebooting the entire server, but that did not help either.

How do I troubleshoot this?
