So it was a problem with rename... I spent hours trying, until I started to run with "grunt -dv" to go verbose, and add debug statements in /node_modules/grunt-webfont/tasks/webfont.js and node_modules/grunt-webfont/tasks/engines/fontforge.js,...

Thanks for your help. I guess I'm just trying to get fonts generated ok... I've just removed the "add extension" part again, and "grunt -v" displays this warning - although...
