From all the Markdown editors I tried so far, Mark Text was the best and has by far the best parser! Maybe you can reuse that?

I think it would be best, if you by default limit to a number equal to the available processing cores. More simultaneous transcodings shouldn’t give you any advantages. ;)
Maybe you’ve received good comments, but still it won’t get you anything, since transcoding will then be slower, that’s for sure! And if there’s a problem (crash or lacking memory)...
