@russel the extension works for me on Debian Jessie (testing) that uses the same gnome-shell package. You just have to manual install but you must use gnome-3.8 branch on git....

You probably miss _glib2-devel_ or _libglib2.0-dev_ packages, depending on your distribution. Make sure to install all the dependencies listed on the project page, switch to gnome-3.8 branch and then run...

There is an error but it's rather trick because the script doesn't stop andò it's masked by the other prints.. ;) _checking for perl >= 5.8.1... 5.14.2 checking for XML::Parser......
