This is not a good idea. Instead, you should use some web socket solution like Signal R to return the result asynchronously.

You need a request to map agains a handler. What about just sending the stream?

You should not use events/notifications this way. The order depends on the implementation of the di-container used, and it can change when new versions are released.

There is a fork that works with netstandard 2.0, https://github.com/wtulloch/DocX. I suppose you could look into how he solved it.

I agree that it is far from ideal. In my case it would work, but a general solution is always better.
