I'm excited to get webpack working too. I've got some annoying stuff to solve before landing 1.9 and I'm a bit busier than usual, but we'll get there :smile:
Maybe use [webpack-stream](https://github.com/shama/webpack-stream)? So it works together with gulp.
And, yeah, it won't be either gulp or webpack. They'll complete each other whenever possible,

As mentioned in other issues, there are a lot of new stuff coming in 1.9 and there will be a some rough edges and places we can improve the integrations...
