Can't manually import TV shows into iTunes

At some point in recent past, iTunes stopped accepting files that I drop into the "Automatically Add.." that I run through MetaZ. If I take I take a TV show...

MetaZ + thetvdb = unusably slow

I've got to be doing something wrong that this hasn't been corrected or noted here previously. Three different computers, three different OS (10.9, 10.11 & 10.12) all do the same...
