Going to try to catalog all of these various states and the surround UX in the coming weeks so we can standardize / better document some of the expected behavior.

Had a mock of this originally when working through 1.4.0, pretty similar, but there was no love so it was squashed .. but agree, conceptual ACK, worth a reconsideration, imo.

Is this something we want to keep for 1.6.0? Will we have time to address some of these points in time? If so, will start working on this evening.
