You can now "detach" (an "attach") messages in `master`, see "Detaching and reattaching messages" in the manual.
Can you still reproduce with `master` or the 1.8.14 release? I think some related things have changed.

Hmm, I'm not sure I understand... the ticket is (now) about mu4e inadvertently adding Gnus metadata to outgoing messages; I think it doesn't do that anymore. Is that not true?...
