We did already reduce the size in the development version and I would like to avoid having too many options, since they do have quite a cost during ongoing maintenance....

The remaining issue seems to have been the egl issue on wayland. Please try the nightly flatpak to see, if you can still reproduce this.
You can already set your roomnick using /roomnick (check the wiki). We don't have that for avatars, but you can always set both of those things by just clicking on...
