Option for setting the max height of media in the timeline

Open TomTheDragon opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

The Problem

I am really enjoying the more efficient use of space by Nheko in comparison to other matrix clients. There is however a problem when it comes to media in timeline, since it can be displayed very big in comparison to everything else, especially if its in portrait format.

The Solution

For me the perfect solution would be to have a value in the options menu, for setting the max height of the media display.

Alternatives

A button to reduce it to around half the size would be nice to have as well.

We did already reduce the size in the development version and I would like to avoid having too many options, since they do have quite a cost during ongoing maintenance. Can you check if the media size on the nightlies is sufficient for you? Media already has a max size, it just isn't configurable currently.

I think i better show an example: Untitled

The problem is very visible when you have relative long windows and it would be nice if we had maybe a few more options i think. I mean a exact max value would be a bit overkill but maybe just a checkbox, to at least reduce it to 50% perhaps.

Here is a second example to show the difference between nheko and schildichat Unbenannt

This also shows that the preview on replies can also be quite big, which can be a problem when too many people comment on a piece of content. Maybe having a checkbox to change it to a much smaller preview would just make it so much cleaner i think.
