I finally got hold of [slac460r.zip](http://distcache.FreeBSD.org/ports-distfiles/msp430-debug-stack-3.8.0.1/slac460r.zip) which is non-trivial thanks to TI release policy, and it works now. So I can say that `S` definitely breaks mspdebug for TI Launchpad...

I just ran into a similar issue with our own code that behaves differently if `obj` is set in `get_fields()` and I can confirm that this also fixes my issue...

I don't currently have a debugger to test again, so I'm afraid I cannot help much. But "all zeroes" sounds like there might be a cabling problem. Or the Rpi...

Furthermore there has been further progress on the OpenOCD side on the aarch64 support, most notably by Matthias Wählisch, but I'm not entirely sure if all his patches have already...

Which toolchain on which system are you using? Looks like there is something wrong with it. As a quickfix you can add `-L/lib/gcc/aarch64-linux-gnu/6.1.1/include/` to `CFLAGS` in the Makefile.
