dev: gets into state where local changes no longer update

Not sure what I'm doing, but after a while the preview starts to not update from local changes, even after refreshing. Need to restart ./live.sh. Has happened maybe 5 times or so

Clear and readable merge requests to address specific issues are more than welcome, but vague issues asking for refactors are not useful.
