No... a bug fixed back in 2017 is not the solution to your problem. The crash is happening inside the core plugin. Cannot help you without know what you entered...

I tried this out and it seems the window just gets hidden by doing cmd+tab. I checked the "Window" menu item under OpenEmu and saw an entry for my running...

The previous release did not default to the popout window, so offhand I don't know about the popout, but yes I agree this is unexpected UX and should be fixed.
