I *think* the issue may be poetry's cache of a pypi bug of a week or so ago, try clearing out the poetry cache and trying again.

Not PEBKAC at all. Pypi had an issue, and unfortunately poetry cached that issue. Please close the issue if you're happy.

I certainly would use it, and would appreciate it being built in. Maybe in time there will be something like this upstream, but..that could be a long time in waiting.

A tiny bit of thinking, maybe self show after the upgrade should be prompting for the self lock to be run, as it's out of sync?

There are no 3.12 wheels for that version of numpy, i strongly encourage you to use a version of numpy that has pre built wheels, like 1.26.3.
