Actually, this is already supported via the SPARQL API. Rather than fetching the entire object for the dictionary, you could just fetch the elements you need to populate the dictionary....
Agreed, but I would assume that most dictionary entries are not written on an update. Those that are not written, do not need to be completely fetched. As we discussed...

This is probably an issue with the index not being updated upon removal. If you can provide more steps to replicate this bug, we can take a look.

Ok, I think I see the problem. The remove of single items does update SBOLExplorer's index, but removing an entire collection does not, so this is a bug.
ICE now returns original file, if that file was an SBOL 2 file. Changes to metadata still picked up as part info converted to annotations, but changes to sequence will...
