This would be a really helpful feature. Ideally, with an option for specifying [`target_stage`](https://www.pantsbuild.org/docs/reference-docker_image#codetarget_stagecode).

I am experiencing the very same issue using VSCode `1.76.0` and ms-vscode-remote.remote-containers version `0.283.0`. Note that I am mounting the `/tmp` folder through docker-compose. Ideas?

Upstream issue seems resolved. Will this be in the next beta release?
