I uninstalled using `pip uninstall comparem` and re-installed using `pip install -e comparem`. Same result. I can delete similarity_search.py and comparem still runs fine.

@ctb Thanks -- this worked for me. After installing in developer mode, the trick was editing the simliarity_search.py found in the the python2.7/comparem directory, not the directory containing cloned files....
