Something like biom filter-blanks -i foo -o bar, where any sample containing "blank" case insensitive is dropped

+1, note that different labs record blanks differently so having by default "blank" and being able to overwrite this parameter might be good ... but this might be too much as at the end of the day we have Q2 for "fancier" things.
