Or just save a screenshot into the world directory when you quit (similar thing could be done for known servers)
Could be an inner formspec with a large background.
Games can always define the background image to go on top of the clouds, and leave the sky transparent.
And no auto-dematting
Having the cursor like we do now when dematting would help with placement.
